Share your skills, learn new ones, get to know your community, and more all while making affordable housing a reality in Chatham County!

why volunteers matter

Volunteers are vital to making a difference in affordable housing Chatham County.

Last year, volunteers served 23,373 hours!

Without volunteers, we’d need an additional $478,000 to run our programs.

how to volunteer

Every swing of a hammer, every hour at the ReStore, and every smile shared on site brings us closer to building safe, affordable homes for families in our community.

Whether you’re here to learn new skills, connect with neighbors, or simply give your time to a good cause, you’ll find a place with us. No experience is needed—just a willingness to pitch in and be part of our mission!

Getting Started:

Register your volunteer account at chathamhabitat.volunteerhub.com

You will provide basic contact information and sign an e-waiver.

If you are under the age of 18, you will need to have a parent print and sign the volunteer waiver. Please bring this to the site on your first day. If you do not have a signed waiver, you cannot be on site.

Orientation:

  • ReStore Volunteers have the option to sign up for an online orientation or view the orientation video during store hours at ReStore 1 (click here for Google Map).

  • All volunteer shifts will be listed on VolunteerHub at least two weeks ahead of time.

  • Once you have completed the orientation, you can sign up for ReStore shifts. Construction orientation will take place at the beginning of each day on site.

  • Log in to VolunteerHub and choose shifts from the calendar to register for. If you are registered you will receive any updates via email. We try very hard not to change events once they are listed on VolunteerHub, but we will alert volunteers no later than 7:30 am on the day of the event.

  • Construction orientation includes a safety briefing for relevant tasks for that day, so please be on time. Our staff may ask you to leave if you have not had the proper safety training for the day.

  • Please do not show up for shifts you are not registered for. This is how we prepare for the day and if you are not signed up, staff may have to send you home without your hours for the day.

community service

If you are completing court-ordered community service, we ask that you provide us with a copy of your charges via email to our Volunteer Program Manager, Matt Zornow (mzornow@chathamhabitat.org). A photo from your phone is acceptable, but the entire page must be clear and legible, and may not be altered in any way.

Please note that charges involving violence, assault, harassment or weapons possession will not be considered, and charges of larceny will disqualify you from serving at the ReStore.

In an effort to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers, Chatham Habitat reserves the right to refuse community service for any reason to any individual, not limited to those charges listed above.

Once you’ve accrued your required hours, email Matt to request a signed letter verifying your participation.

group opportunties

We also welcome groups! When businesses, churches, schools, communities, and clubs volunteer with Chatham Habitat, they accomplish more than impacting the lives of families in need – they also strengthen their own organizations.
